“That you are here—that life exists and identity,
That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.” – Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass
Creativity has always been in my DNA, and I’ve always had a thirst for inspiration and originality. Starting a blog has been a goal of mine for many moons, and finally after a few bumps in the road and defeating the mother of all beasts, procrastination, here we are. Deciding what to write about was a daunting task. Fashion has always been a passion of mine, but it didn’t feel soulful enough. I love cooking, but an entire blog about the five things I can make well didn’t seem to fit the bill either.
After moving to DC on Christmas Eve of 2017, I struggled a lot with finding my purpose in this new life I was creating. That’s when I began This Side of Thriving. This is a blog about all things life offers to those who seek out that feeling of not just surviving, but thriving. A literature major, and life-long lover of the written word, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s This Side of Paradise was the inspiration for the title. Meaning: we wait our entire lives to cross over into paradise. Sorry, Francis, but that’s too long of a wait for me. In search of paradise lost and all the magic and beauty life has to offer, see where life takes us on This Side of Thriving.
Love your idea. Combined with Presence (thriving in the moment) it reminds me of the way too many times I did stop and smell the roses or truly appreciate what I had. We get what we focus on. A dear friend of mine was recently diagnosed with cancer and decided to notice 3 miracles a day. I love hearing her rendition of miracles she finds every day. Can’t wait to see how you thrive.
